Unions involved in bus strike to meet employer association

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Unions representing striking bus drivers are set to meet with employer associations in Johannesburg on Thursday in the hope of the ending the strike that’s in its third week.

The parties are half a percentage point apart.

Other areas of disagreement are dual-driver payment, night-shift hours, as well as in-sourcing.

Spokesperson of transport union Satawu, Zanele Sabela says, “Unfortunately the strike continues. Currently workers are demanding 9.5% for the first year and 8.5% for the second year. Employers however want to pay from the 1st of May 9% increase and they’re offering 8% for the second year.”
