On the 21st of September 2013, about 15 gunmen entered the Westgate Shopping Mall in Nairobi Kenya, shooting randomly and killing more than 70 people in a siege that lasted 80 hours. James Thomas, a South African citizen was shot more than three times and killed as he attended a business meeting near the mall, exposing the ever increasing danger posed by terrorism in Africa.
A Somali terrorist group, Alshabaab has claimed responsibility, citing Kenya’s involvement in the Somali war as the reason. In the ongoing saga, British citizen Samantha Lewthwaite also known as the ‘white widow’ has been identified as the mastermind. She had also lived in and had been using a fake South Africa passport.
But were these attacks all foretold? Special Assignment is in possession of exclusive footage seemingly showing controversial Zimbabwean Prophet, Uebert Angel predicting the attacks a year before they happened. This is also coupled with photos showing the prophet meeting Kenyan Vice President William Ruto just a few weeks before the attacks. In a never ending war on terror, we ask if there is room for divine intervention.
We also seek answers to the security threat posed by terror groups to South Africa. Has the country become a terror haven? The Hawks has also confirmed they had been tracking the activities of Alshabaab in the country while questions remain of South Africa’s intelligence capabilities.
