Reading Time: < 1 minute

United Democratic Movement deputy president Nqabayomzi Kwankwa has warned that politically-motivated killings, particularly in KwaZulu-Natal, could threaten next year’s national elections.

He was speaking at the party’s national election workshop in Pretoria on Saturday.

Kwankwa has condemned the killings and has called on stakeholders to find ways of urgently arresting the situation.

“We want to take this opportunity to condemn in the strongest possible terms the violence that is taking place in that particular province, and call on all the relevant stakeholders to do everything in their power to deal with the situation. We call on political parties to ensure that the internal party squabbles do not become a threat to free and fair elections in 2019.”
