The University of Cape Town’s (UCT) Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng, will receive an honorary degree from the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom (UK) on Monday.
University spokesperson Elijah Moholola says Phakeng will be honoured through a Doctor of Science degree.
He says she will be among a record number of women to receive honorary degrees at the university this year.
“Professor Phakeng took over as UCT Vice-Chancellor in July 2018 and is being honoured by the University of Bristol through this honorary degree described as a major accolade that is awarded in recognition of outstanding achievement and distinction in a field or activity consonant with the University’s mission.”
