UCT says can’t allow exams disruption

The University of Cape Town says it cannot allow exams to be disrupted, although it’s hopeful that fee talks between management and the SRC Council will yield results.

A small group of disgruntled students continued to protest at the University on Monday, violating a court interdict obtained by the University last week.

The Police together with campus security and private security continue to monitor the students.

Last week, seven students who contravened the interdict, were released on bail of R500.

The University’s Elijah Moholola says security will be beefed up, if required.

“The executive is committed to continuing with the exams even if it means, bringing in additional security, we have at the moment campus protection services. We also have the SAPS and private security on campus which is situation that is never an ideal but it is necessitated by the conditions on the ground at the moment,” says Maholola.
