UCT management, SRC meet to discuss ‘military environment’ on campus

Members of the Student Representative Council (SRC) at the University of Cape Town (UCT) say they will meet management on Monday to discuss what they call a militant environment on campus.

University management has decided to increase security due to unlawful student protests recently. Seven students were also arrested for causing damage to property.

They are out on R500 bail each.

SRC President, Karabo Khakhau says, “What UCT management has decided as part of their protection is to build tents for students to write on the rugby field, and that way they would increase police and private security including dogs unfortunately. To expect students to write in the presence of police dogs is not entirely acceptable and we have people who have phobias for dogs.”
