Two schools torched in North West

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Two schools have been torched in the North West, in the last four days, all related to community demands for tarred roads.

The latest incident happened at Madibogo Village, just outside Mahikeng, at the weekend, where there has been a five week protest, which has disrupted schooling, including a shutdown of a local clinic.

GS Phoi Secondary may not be able to retrieve some of the invaluable school records lost in the fire. School records, text books and the school’s administration block, have been destroyed in the fire.

The storeroom, where textbooks and stationary are kept, has been completely gutted. This has compounded the school’s shortage of classrooms.

Kgalalelo Mokhuane of GS Phoi Secondary says: “ We as the SGB, we are very much affected by the burning of GS Phoi Secondary School. We are very sad because of what has happened in this school.”

Provincial education authorities have condemned the burning of schools during service protests.
