Matatiele police in the Eastern Cape have arrested two suspects who attempted to defraud a woman of more than R1 million after pretending to be from the Road Accident Fund.

Police spokeperson Raphael Motloung says the complainant became suspicious after the suspects requested her to give them R30 000.

They said the money would be used to book accommodation and flights as they told her that they should meet on Saturday.

She alerted the police and detectives who set up a trap.

The suspects were arrested at a B&B where they were going to meet with the victim.

Police confiscated a RAF file, cellphones and the hired vehicle the suspects were using.

The suspects are facing charges of fraud, impersonation of RAF officials and possession of a RAF file.
