Twenty-three taxis impounded in North West

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Twenty-three taxis have been impounded in the North West for being unroadworthy or operating without permits.

This follows an operation that authorities conducted.

The Community Safety and Department of Transport says there’s been a public outcry about the increasing number of illegal taxi-operators in the province, which cause conflict among the operators and leads to their lives being put in danger.

North West Community Safety MEC Dr Mpho Motlhabane believes their operation was successful.

“We also targeting what we call Tambai’s in the province who are actually illegal in the operations.  We have impounded so far since Wolmaranstad up to Mafikeng about 23 vehicles and we realise that most of our drivers don’t have the necessary requirements to drive public transport,” adds Motlhabane.
