Truck drivers blockade N4

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Izusa truck drivers affiliated to the Motor Transport Workers Union have blockaded the N4 at Hectorspruit near Komatipoort in Mpumalanga. There is a 5-kilometre long blockade of trucks and more trucks are expected.

The truck drivers are demanding that the employer explains where their provident fund contributions and tax money goes. This after it was revealed to them they are not paying tax or provident fund.

However the employer through an agency deducts the money from their salaries. The workers say their strike is protected. Motor Transport Workers Union Spokesperson Mohlanyana Motaung elaborates.

“We’re having a problem here with the company called IZUSA transport whereby IZUSA decided to sell part of their business to a company called innovative staffing group ISG in short. Then ISG decided to take the employees out of the bargaining council of the road right whereby at the moment they are not paying any contribution. They are deducting money of provident fund, they’re deducting tax but that money is not being paid anywhere at the moment. Our strike is a legal strike. We are on N4.”
