South Africans have taken to social media to express shock and sadness following the death of one of the world’s top DJs, Avicii. No cause of death has been announced after the 28-year old was found unconscious in Oman.

The electronic dance music star had struggled with health issues in the past, having his gall bladder and appendix removed in 2014.

During the 2017/18 festive season, he posted pictures on social media of him and his friends on Table Mountain, and encouraged his fans to visit Cape Town.

Avicii, whose real name is Tim Bergling, released club anthems and tracks that hit home for many electronic dance music fans – including Wake Me Up, Hey Brother, Waiting for Love, Levels and The Nights.
