Trek for Mandela to help with sanitary towels

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Trek for Mandela campaign hopes to collect half a million sanitary pads for girls from disadvantaged communities.

The Imbumba Foundation, who runs the program, has partnered with mineral resource giant, South 32, and uKhozi FM, an SABC radio station. They launched the Care for Girls program at Ezakheleni High School, near eMpangeni, on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast.

The foundation’s Rich Mabaso says there is a great need for sanitary towels: “The main challenges is that most of (the girls) are coming from child-headed families; and some of them are dependent on the pension grant that is coming from their grannies.”
