The African National Congresse’ (ANC) newly-elected top six leadership led by party President Cyril Ramaphosa have arrived in northern KwaZulu-Natal to pay a courtesy visit to Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini at his Osuthu palace in Nongoma.

Ramaphosa, his deputy David Mabuza, National Chairperson Gwede Mantashe, Secretary General Ace Magashule, Deputy Secretary General Jessie Duarte and Treasurer General Paul Mashatile will brief his majesty about the outcome of the ANC’s 54 national conference and policies taken at the conference.

They will be accompanied by party provincial chairperson Sihle Zikalala.

“The national leadership felt that we should come here to pay respects to his majesty the king by introducing the elected leaders of the ANC but also have that relationship, sustain it because it’s important for the ANC to always interact with traditional leaders. He has always played a role of being an elder and gives advice and guidance both to the organisation but also to issues of governance. If the organisation is not stable, obviously the governance will be affected. He has played quite a pivotal role but more than that, in terms of social cohesion, his majesty has played a leading role.”
