Three in critical condition after Mosque attack in Durban

Three people are in a critical condition following a Mosque attack in Verulam, north of Durban.

Reports indicate that three Egyptian nationals attacked people with knives and set fire to the Mosque on Old Main Road in Ottawa.

The wounded have since been taken to local hospital. Reaction Unit South Africa’s spokesperson, Prem Balram, says police have launched a manhunt for the suspects.

“Upon arrival we found that two victims had their throat slit inside the Mosque by three armed men. The suspects were armed with knives and fire-arms. While treating the victim a second victim was found inside a burning mosque and he had also had his throat slit. He was attended to by paramedics and forwarded to hospital. The third victim is currently on scene and stabilised by life support. The suspects had fled in a white Hundyai Getz towards Phoenix area. Reaction Unit are currently searching the area for the suspects.”
