More than 10 000 people, including Eastern Cape Health MEC Dr Pumza Dyantyi, have participated in the annual five kilometre Cancer Big Walk in Port Elizabeth. Commercial radio stations have organised the cancer awareness walk which the Eastern Cape government has endorsed.
Funds raised from the walk will be donated to organisations catering for people with cancer.
“The main reason we decided to participate is because we see that the awareness campaign carried out by this big walk are more than we can reach as the department and we can never win alone hence the theme this year is walk as run. We are sending a message to the breath and length of the Eastern Cape so people should know that screening and early detection beats cancer, said Heath MEC Dr Pumza Dyantyi.”
