Trade union, Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union, says preparations are in place for its commemoration of the Marikana massacre at the infamous Nkaneng koppie on Thursday.
Thirty-four people were killed by police on August the 16th 2012 during a violent unprotected strike by Lonmin mine employees, who were demanding a monthly salary of R12 500.
A new report released on Thursday, raises many questions about the police’s conduct.
Amcu regional chairperson Jack Khoba says thousands of people are expected to attend the commemoration.
“We presented ourselves as per law that we need to go first and present in public safety for Gatherings ACT. They’ve approved at Madibeng municipality. So, we’ve done and also we’ve requested from the royal house, at Bapo ba Mogale, they’ve agreed that we can hold our commemoration as usual.”
