Former GCIS head Themba Maseko has told the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture that the Gupta family’s approach to officials amounted to bullying and influenced him to flout government procurement procedures Maseko is the commissions fourth witness and presented his evidence in Parktown in Johannesburg.
Maseko told Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo that he was threatened the Guptas. Maseko also shared with the Commission that a number of people who were still in the public service were complaining to former DG’s how procurement processes were being undermined. He was relating to a document where 27 DG’s had signed who had interaction with the Gupta family. Maseko told the commission more people could’ve signed the document, but they feared losing their jobs.
Maseko revealed that Ajay Gupta had requested a meeting with him, but he was reluctant because of the rumours which were circulating around the family’s dealings with government.
