A theatre production called “Voices” is using art to bring collective healing to rape survivors. A group of young women relate their traumatic past through a series of monologues.
The production is currently showing at the Bloemfontein Civic Centre.
Co-author of the play, Nomaxabiso Mondi, says she could not defend herself against her rapist. “You know sometimes when someone is doing something to you, it is easy for you to defend yourself but when it comes to me, I could not because the person was very old, he was 49 years and I was 8 years.”
