The Orbit jazz music venue and bistro is to close its doors due to a lack of funding.
The aim of the venue, which opened in 2014, is to showcase South African jazz to a mixed local and international audience.
The venue has failed to attract further investment. The manager, Shakir Jadoo will be sad to see closure of The Orbit, which he says has fulfilled its objectives.
“The journey was not easy though, there have always been financial constraints and they managed to survive somehow and the other good journey in the sense The Orbit has become a household name. SA jazz music was put back on the map and it developed a very unique listenership and I think that was the aim of The Orbit and that’s why it opened and has achieved that in a short period of time,” says Jadoo.
