The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has reasserted itself as a regional player in KZN, and increased its national vote share. It now has 17.4% of the vote share in the province with 87% of all Voting Districts counted, and predicted to win 16.6% by the CSIR. This is a substantial increase from the 11% achieved in 2014. The IFP is also likely to unseat the DA as official opposition in KZN.
With very little support elsewhere nationally, this increase has effectively increased the IFP’s national standing. Its national vote share will likely increase to 3.4% from 2.4 % in the 2014 election vote and it will retain its position as 4th largest party in the country.
