Tete ready to face off with Casimero

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Reigning World Boxing Organisation (WBO) bantamweight champion Zolani “Last Born” Tete is almost done with his preparations ahead of his title defence against his Filipino counterpart John Riel Casimero. Tete and Casimero will meet at Arena Birmingham in England next Saturday.

The former International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-bantamweight champion is happy that he will be fighting in England again.

Tete has a big following in England after he won the hearts of the English boxing fans when he stopped Paul Butler, who was unbeaten at the time, in March 2015.

Tete’s manager Mlandeli Tengimfene brought sparring partners from Durban to make sure that the Mdantsane-born champion’s preparations for the fight went smoothly.

The 31-year-old Tete has not fought since his win over Russian Mikhail Aloyan in Russia in October last year.

He was supposed to have fought against Nonito “Filipino Flash” Donaire in April this year, but that fight had to be called off after Tete injured his shoulder a few days before meeting the Filipino boxer.

Meanwhile, Tete says he wants to beat Casimero so that he can give his trainer Loyiso Mtya a belated birthday present. Mtya celebrated his 66th birthday on Sunday. – Report by Monwabisi Jimlongo
