Commuters are stranded in Tsakane east of Johannesburg following Gauteng Transport MEC, Ismail Vadi’s closure of the local taxi rank.

This follows the murder of four taxi drivers at the Brakpan CBD on Wednesday. Eight suspects have since been arrested.

There are no minibus taxis at the Tsakane taxi rank to ferry commuters to their destinations. Commuters are forced to make alternative arrangements to reach their destinations. However many minibus taxis are seen loading commuters on the streets of Tsakane.

This is despite the MEC of transport, Ismail Vadi urging the taxi associations to find an amicable solution to their squabbles.

Vadi says this taxi rank will remain closed until the security situation relating to the taxi industry in the area stabilises. Law enforcement agencies have been deployed around the taxi rank.
