Following Mamelodi Sundowns’ stellar campaign during the Absa Premiership, the newly crowned champions’ Percy Tau is line to win big at the Premier Soccer League awards.

The joint top goal scorer for the 2017/18 season is nominated for the both Player’s Player of the Year and the Footballer of the season awards.

The nominees for the Absa Premiership awards were announced in Johannesburg on Tuesday.

Apart from individual brilliance, the Footballer of the Year Award is often given to a player that has contributed significantly to the team’s success. Something that puts Percy Tau in good stead for the converted individual price come the PSL awards ceremony next week Tuesday.

Despite facing stiff competition from team mate Hlompho Kekana and Siphesihle Ndlovu of Maritzburg United for the Footballer of the Year award, Golden Arrows coach Clinton Larsen believes Tau is the front-runner for the award having scored 11 goals and provided 13 assists for his team.

Maritzburg United’s brilliant 2017/18 season, during which they finished fourth on the Absa Premiership log, has not gone unnoticed. Their mentor Fadlu Davids will battle it out for the Coach of the Season with Pitso Mosimane of Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates’ Milutin Sredojevic.

Davids’ rapid rise has earned him praises from Golden Arrows coach Larsen.

After a lackluster season for Kaizer Chiefs in the 2017/18 campaign, they only have a single nominee for the end of the season awards in the form of Itumeleng Khune for the Goalkeeper of the Year award.

The PSL awards ceremony will be broadcast on SABC 1 from 9 o’clock next Tuesday evening.
