Talent alone not enough, says McCarthy

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy held nothing back following his side’s hair-raising 3-3 draw with SuperSport United at the Mbombela Stadium at the weekend, unsparingly slamming his players for their defensive errors.

City had the lead twice but surrendered it and the former Bafana striker says South African players just do not learn that talent alone is not enough.

Clearly set to wield the axe, McCarthy went on to mention that he is missing his injured soldiers Taariq Fielies and Roland Putsche  and that he will not be afraid to throw them straight back into the mix,  as he hit out half of those who played would not play again in his team.

Defenders Keanu Cupido and Abbubaker Mobara could be first to feel the wrath as both were all over the place costing their side two goals.

This was the Citizens’ third draw to go with one win and one defeat thus far in the league this season as well as an MTN8 first round knockout and McCarthy says being a good footballing side just is not enough for a team wanting to win the league. – Report by Tumi Gabonamong
