Analysts say they expect an increase in the number of job losses in the second quarter ahead of employment data from Stats SA on Tuesday.
Analysts are expecting a 0.3 percentage point increase in the unemployment rate as Statistics South Africa gears up to release the employment numbers for the first quarter of 2019 on Tuesday.
The rate of unemployment is expected to have improved slightly in the fourth quarter on the back of seasonal hiring. Jobs data will be released on Tuesday.
Stats SA says the unemployment rate increased slightly in the third quarter of 2018 to 27, 5%. This is up from the second quarter’s 27, 2%.
