Stats SA data shows mining production decreased by 3.3% year-on-year in January as pressure on the sector continues.
According to Stats SA, the South African economy grew by 1,4% in the fourth quarter of 2018 contributing to an overall growth rate of 0,8% for the entire year.
The sector continues to struggle following the policy uncertainty debacle it suffered in the recent past.
Retail trade sales in South Africa improved in October according to data released by Statistics South Africa.
Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) data shows 16 000 jobs were lost in the third quarter. The job losses were largely in the productive sectors of the economy namely, manufacturing, construction and mining.
