An economic justice organisation has called for the role of the Reserve Bank to be scrutinised.
The rand is unchanged against the greenback, with investors looking ahead to Wednesday’s release of local consumer price figures and the United States decision on interest rates.
The rand continues to trade at its slightly stronger level against a basket of major currencies in mid-morning JSE trade, after having weakened to its weakest level in eight months to above R15 to the dollar just a week ago.
The rand is slightly firmer against the greenback in early trade. The local currency scraped back some of the losses experienced the past week after United States President Donald Trump suspended his plans to place tariffs on Mexico indefinitely.
The rand has weakened by around 1% against a basket of major currencies in early trade, despite the dollar trading nearly unchanged at its slightly stronger level against the euro and the pound.
