The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) has called for the immediate axing of the entire Eskom board and its senior management because it says they have failed to fix the power utility after two years at the helm.
Eskom says it will challenge National Energy Regulator of South Africa’s (Nersa) latest tariff determination, citing failure by the regulator to adhere to guidelines.
The City claims that the tariff increase is within NERSA’s approved 13,7%, and it says that the city council was the executive authority.
Johannesburg residents can expect to pay more for water and electricity when the new tariff hikes come into effect on July 1.
The National Energy Regulator of South Africa’s (Nersa) spokesperson Charles Hlebela has described Joburg Mayor Herman Mashaba’s comments as unfortunate.
