Taxi strike irks Pretoria commuters

Reading Time: < 1 minute

No roads have been barricaded in Pretoria despite the planned taxi strike on Wednesday.

Routes to and from the R80 Mabopane Highway are clear and traffic is flowing freely.

Thousands of frustrated taxi commuters have now gone back home because of the strike.

Striking taxi drivers are expected to meet at 09:00 at the Old Putco Depot in Marabastad before proceeding to the Department of Transport to hand over their first memorandum at 11:30.

They will then turn right into Nelson Mandela Street and left into Madiba Street, until they reach the Union Buildings at 13.00 for the handing over of their second memorandum.

SABC Reporter Phumzile Mlangeni gives an update on the taxi strike in Pretoria, with particular reference to activity in and around Marabastad.
