Soweto Marathon prompts road closures

The Soweto Marathon is taking place in Johannesburg this Sunday morning. The 24th annual running of “The People’s Race” starts from the iconic venue FNB Stadium in Soweto.

The event comprises of a 42 km standard marathon, 21 kilometre half marathon and a 10 kilometre run.

More than 25 000 runners will participate  racing through various historical Soweto landmarks including; the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, Walter Sisulu Square of Dedication in Kliptown as well as the June 16th Memorial Acre.

Johannesburg Metro police will be on scene and have warned the public of some road closures in the area.
