‘Dead rubber’ loss for Bafana in Senegal

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Bafana Bafana ended their 2018 World Cup qualification campaign at the bottom of Group D.

The team suffered their fourth defeat of the campaign against Senegal losing 2-1 who qualified over the weekend in South Africa.

Goals from Opa Nguette and Kara Mbodji were enough to sink the struggling Stuart Baxter’s boys who were already out of the showpiece in Russia, while Percy Tau scored the only goal for the visitors.

The 2018 World Cup qualifier between Senegal and South Africa was delayed for about five minutes after lights went off, just before the start of the match at the Stade Leopold in Senegal. Supporters used their cell phones to generate light before advertising boards on the side-lines were used to bring back to light up only the pitch side.

Eventually the match got underway after the stadiums’ slow charging globes brought back the light. Burkino Faso ended behind Senegal after they recorded a 4-0 win over Cape Verde.
