The North West and Northern Cape police have arrested two suspects on charges of hijacking and kidnapping.

It is alleged that the victim, a man, was driving in his vehicle from Kuruman to Kathu when he stopped and offered hitch-hikers a ride.

While driving, the hitch-hikers allegedly pointed the driver with a firearm, stopped the car, tied him up and put him inside the boot.

The suspects robbed him of his personal items, including a cell-phone before they released him in Taung during the night.

They later handed him his vehicle back before fleeing the scene.

The victim then drove to a filling station in Taung, where police were contacted for assistance.

A man-hunt was launched by Taung police and Mahikeng Highway Patrol unit that led to the arrest of one suspect.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Kuruman Magistrates Court for hijacking and kidnapping.

The second suspect was traced and also arrested by police. He will be appearing in the Hartswater magistrate’s court soon.
