Mahumapelo leads North West peace march

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Embattled North West premier Supra Mahumapelo will lead his supporters, including ANC PEC and church leaders, in a march for peace on Thursday in the provincial capital Mahikeng.

However, the South African Council of Churches has distanced itself from the march.

The purpose of the march is to bring peace, reconciliation and renewal in the province.

Community members are making their way to Mmabatho to march to the Montshiwa stadium.

The march follows violent protests by some communities in the past month demanding that Mahumapelo step down.

Shops belonging to foreign nationals were looted and government buildings were torched.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday Nehawu handed over their memorandum of demands to the ministerial task team led by Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma.
