SuperSport United will meet Highlands Park in the 2019 MTN8 final following a 2-0 victory over Tshwane arch-rivals Mamelodi Sundowns, in the semi-final second leg clash at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Wednesday night.

Matsatsantsa won the tie 3-1 on aggregate after the first leg encounter ended in a 1-1 draw at the same venue two weeks ago.

Teboho Mokoena and substitute Jamie Webber scored the goals for Matsatsantsa. SuperSport Utd coach Kaitano Tembo is happy with the results.

SuperSport have reached the MTN 8 final for the third time in a row.

They won it in 2017 when they beat Cape Town City in Polokwane, but lost to the very same City last year in Durban.

This year’s final will take place at Orlando Stadium on the 5th of October. Tembo is happy with the choice of the venue.

Sundowns have never won the MTN 8 since it was incepted in 2008. It is also the only trophy that has eluded coach Pitso Mosimane since he arrived at the team more than five years ago, despite winning other trophies on offer domestically. Mosimane congratulated the referee and Tembo.

It was the third time the two teams met this season. Sundowns won the first game 2-0 which was the opening league match of the season.

It was also the first time the Brazilians lost a match in any competition locally this season. Mosimane says they have to accept the defeat. – Report by Vincent Sitsula
