SuperSport United utility player Aubrey Modiba says their ultimate goal for the 2018/19 season is to finish in the top three bracket of the ABSA Premiership.

SuperSport have been blowing hot and cold this season and are currently sixth on the log, eight points behind leaders Bidvest Wits. However they have shown glimpses of stability after winning two consecutive matches recently.

“Collecting as much points as we can because those points are going to take us up the log I think if we can finish in the top three right now or maybe in the top three before the season ends anything can happen like you said we can end up winning the league but right now we want to collect as much points as we can so that we can climb up the log and compete with those who are up there,” says Modiba.

SuperSport United play third placed Orlando Pirates in an ABSA Premiership match at the Mbombela Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Coach Kaitano Tembo, reached the final of the MTN8 for the first time as the head coach this season. He did so by bringing players up from the academy. Those changes were forced on him, with a number of his regulars suffering injuries. Tembo says they have done great so far.

“After fifteen games I think we finished third in the first round of the season, but we didn’t start well, you know. Second round we lost two games in a row but we have recovered now. We’ve won two games as well in a row and I think we are still in a good position. We are sixth in the log still in the good position to finish very strongly. And I think we were a little bit disrupted, especially in the first half of the season where we lost our key players.”

Striker Thuso Phala has fallen out of favour with the team, and management are set to make an announcement about his future soon.
