SuperSport looking for Top 4 finish

Reading Time: 2 minutes

With just nine points to play for, and being 10 points behind log leaders Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United are out of contention to clinch the league.

They will look to solidify their place in the top four when they take on title-chasers Bidvest Wits in an Absa Premiership clash at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday evening.  Kick-off is at 18:00.

Matsatsantsa sits on 43 points on fifth spot, four points below Wits and Cape Town City and coach Kaitano Tembo knows his side is in for a tough period against “The Students”.

With Wits sitting on 47 points, six adrift of Pirates, Matsatsantsa face a side that is still in with a realistic shot of winning the title.

Wits could jump up the standings should second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns, who sit on 50 points, be deducted the three points for fielding the ineligible Wayne Arendse.

This could mean Wits would get an additional two points to the one they earned in a draw with the Brazilians last year and should they beat SuperSport United.

SuperSport United dropped to fifth spot on Friday after the PSL Disciplinary Committee ruled that Bloemfontein Celtic forfeit the three points to Cape Town City following their supporters’ riot at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium earlier this month.

This sees City jump to third spot on 47 points after they defeated Chippa United on Friday night.
Appointed head coach on a full-time basis at the start of the season having taken over the reins on an interim basis last season, Tembo is content with how his campaign has unfolded.

United blew hot and cold this season where they’ve been rocked by injuries to most of their spine players.

Though many have returned to action, striker Thabo Mnyamane has struggled to hit the ground running this season, despite getting a taste of the action against Polokwane City and Sundowns recently. Tembo emphasizes the lanky forward will only bounce back next season.
