The South African Weather Service is warning of gale force winds and heavy rain over the Cape Metropole and Cape Winelands on Thursday that could result in localised flooding.

The City of Cape Town’s spokesperson for Disaster Risk Management, Charlotte Powell, says their staff is on standby.

“The South African Weather Service has advised the City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre of a cut-off low pressure system that is expected to affect the Cape Metropole tomorrow (Thursday), resulting in very cold, wet and windy conditions. City services are on standby in the event of any weather-related impacts on residents or infrastructure.”
