Reading Time: < 1 minute

Northmead Square in Johannesburg will be hosting a Street Store where people get to spend 67 minutes of their time to help fight against poverty.

2018 marks the centenary of the birth of Nelson Mandela and people have the opportunity to reflect on his life and times.

Organiser, Sharné Bodenstein says the Street Store initiative is about giving back to the community and helps the homeless

“The street store is a rent free premise, free pop up store that will be set up where the homeless can have a dignified shopping experience, free of charge,” says  Bodenstein.

Speaking on Morning Live Bodenstein says the initiative is about taking action against poverty, “as Mandela wanted us to”.

The initiative was started in Cape Town in 2014.
