The Stormers picked up an important win on Saturday evening when they beat the Sunwolves 31-18 at Newlands Rugby Stadium.

Tries from Bongi Mbonambi, Craig Barry and two from Jaco Coetzee helped Robbie Fleck’s team to the victory, while Sunwolves fullback Semisi Masirewa scored twice for the opponents.

Fleck says it was a good win, and while disappointed to concede a late try to deny the bonus point, it was the win that was most important.

While the Stormers are missing so many through injury, and scrum half Herschel Jantjies has now joined that list, Fleck says they have to back the players they have available, knowing that they have to win next week against the Sharks to qualify for the quarter-finals.

Fleck has no concerns over his defence, despite conceding that late try, and says mistakes will happen.

Sunwolves coach Scott Hansen says they knew the Stormers would be targeting a bonus point, but he felt they lost out on it because of slowing the tempo down.

Hansen says the Sunwolves, who are out of the playoff race, are not thinking about next season yet, and their only focus is on their final game against the Jaguares.
