[Watch]State of Capture Inquiry gets underway

The much-awaited Commission of State of Capture Inquiry has officially started in Parktown, Johannesburg, on Monday.

The head of the Commission Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo has outlined the inquiry’s terms of reference.

No witnesses are expected to take the stand on Monday. However, at some stage various key witnesses including former Deputy Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonas and former ANC Member of Parliament Vytjie Mentor will testify.

Legal representatives of persons implicated in allegations of state capture have asked the Commission of Inquiry into state capture for more time to prepare for cross examination.

Legal teams say some were only given submissions by key witnesses as late as last Friday.

The legal representatives of Ajay Gupta, as well as former President Jacob Zuma, among those who’ve made the request. Michael Hellens is representing Ajay Gupta.
