Squash wonderkid Awande Malinga is gearing up for the upcoming U-16 Interprovincial (IPT) tournament to take place in Bloemfontein on the 15th till the 19th of June.

Malinga as the #1 seed will be representing Gauteng North (Northerns) U-16A girls’ team.

The 14- year-old talented player has been talk of the town in the world of squash because of her excellent performance. Malinga says she is glad the long wait is over.

This tournament is the last of the 2019 South African Schools squash top 10 rankings and Malinga had finished 3rd and 2nd in the previous ranking tournaments.

Though Malinga suffered a shoulder injury which posed a challenge to training, her father Celumusa Malinga, who is also her second coach, is confident.

The Malingas do not compromise when it comes to education. Malinga senior says that though his daughter took time off to focus on her studies and trained on study break, he still believes his daughter will do well as usual. – Report by Sinovuyo Ndudane
