Reading Time: < 1 minute

Youth in Soweto are optimistic despite the challenges they face Speaking to the youth around, the sentiment is that hopelessness will not yield any results.

A Soweto youth, Tebogo Sithole, is very positive. He says we still need time to reverse the injustices of the past.

“It is because of the people like Hector Pieterson and others that I am even able to talk to the media,” he jokes.

Sithole says he however expects President Cyril Ramaphosa to address the issue of youth unemployment as it is one of the biggest challenges faced by today’s youth.

The high rate of youth unemployment even leads to crime, he adds.

As much as there is feeling of frustration, Sithole says the youth must also empower themselves and create jobs for themselves like working towards being entrepreneurs instead to ‘waiting’ for jobs.
