South Africans urged to recommit to ‘a new dawn’

Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan has reiterated his commitment to the founding principles of the governing party.

He was addressing the Krishna Rabilal Foundation in Durban.

Rabilal left South Africa in 1977 to join Umkhonto weSizwe (MK).

He was killed along with 11 other activists by the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) in Mozambique in what is known as The Motala Raid.

Gordhan has called on the old and the youth to recommit themselves to what he called “a new dawn in South Africa”.

“Today as South Africans, we carry a badge on our shoulder whether you like it or not, and that badge says I come from the second most unequal society in the world. So it used to be the badge which says I come from Nelson Mandela’s country.”

“We need to find that energy and commitment and compassion which will say let’s bring about further changes in this country so the dreams of our forefathers and foremothers can be accomplished,” adds Gordhan.
