Users on Social Media have expressed outrage after a teacher at Hoërskool Die Burger in Roodepoort, Johannesburg, was caught on video scolding black pupils, asking them if they want to remain “idiots”.

Twitter user iMporthant (@Mphoww_D) posted the video on Twitter on Sunday, referring to the video as “racist behaviour” that her sister and classmates endure every morning.

During his outburst, the educator is heard saying: “The only thing people can see…what people can see…that’s why you guys only invented peanut butter and you don’t have to change, you can stay an idiot…you can stay an absolute idiot and laugh at everything I’m trying to change to make you a champion.”

As he goes on, the teacher tells pupils that he can show them videos about “idiotic black people that talk. Sorry that I say the words idiots and black because I don’t believe in idiot neither do I believe in black”.

With over 18 000 views, the video has stirred up debate across social media platforms about racism in South African high schools.

Replying to @Mphoww_D’s post, Twitter user @markusschorn described the teacher’s comments as “disgraceful, despicable, dangerous and disgusting.”
