Smaller parties walk out of IEC meeting

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Members of the 35 disgruntled smaller political parties have walked out of a meeting with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) and party liaison committee to address their concerns and discuss the audit of the votes.

On Thursday the group called for a rerun of the polls alleging flaws in the electoral process. They include the Black First Land First, African Transformation Movement, National Freedom Party, African Convention Movement and Land Party.

Leader of the South African Arts and Culture Youth Forum Romeo Ramuada says they want an independent auditor appointed to audit the results.

Ramauda says the parties have agreed to stage a mass protest at the IEC Operations Centre in Pretoria should their grievances not be addressed.
