Sixteen suspected illegal miners arrested in Mpumalanga

Sixteen suspected illegal miners have been arrested and have appeared at the Barberton Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga. This is after they were found in possession of Gold Bearing Ore.

Hawks provincial spokesperson, Dineo Sekgotodi, says the suspects who are from Zimbabwe were arrested at the Barberton Consortium Mine.

Sekgotodi says the suspects will be back in court next week.

“They were arrested by the members of Hawks, Serious Organised Crime Unit together with Barberton Crime Prevention and Mine Security. The suspects will appear again in court on 14 May after they were reminded in custody.”
