The trial of six men accused of murdering Democratic Alliance (DA) councillor-elect Johannes Baaitjie and his business partner Shuping Nose is expected to start in the High Court in Kimberley on Monday.

The six men allegedly shot and killed both Baaitjie and Nose on the road between Postmasburg and Danielskuil after the 2016 local government elections.

Baaitjie was set to be sworn in as councillor of the local Kgatelopele Municipality based in Danielskuil.

Nearly two years ago Baaitjie and his business partner Nose were allegedly lured to a business meeting and shot execution-style in a suspected political killing.

Several postponements due to the accused’s inability to secure legal representation have delayed the start of the case.
