Six KZN teens arrested for possession of two illegal guns

Police in KwaZulu-Natal have arrested six teenagers who were allegedly in possession of two illegal guns and ammunition.

One of the six teenagers was injured during a shootout with police and is in hospital under police guard.

KwaZulu-Natal Police spokesperson Jay Naicker says the other five were charged and later released to the custody of their parents.

The arrest came after police spotted a vehicle which raised their suspicions, they attempted to pull over the vehicle. The suspects sped off and a chase ensued when the vehicle reached Dumisani Makhaye highway the teenagers opened fire towards police officers.

During the shootout, one of the suspects was injured and he was taken to hospital where he remains under police guard, five other youngsters were arrested and taken to the Greenwood Park police station.

Police ceased two firearms from the suspects. They were charged for attempted murder and for being in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.
