Six people have been arrested during protests that have hit different parts of KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday, which impacted on delays in opening more than 100 voting stations in the province.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker says a large number of protests were in the Bergville area in the Midlands with the worst affected area being Ntabamhlophe, where protesters have dug trenches in the road to prevent entry and or exit to the area.

Naicker adds that it has been difficult for the police to make further arrests as protesters who reside right across the main roads place obstacles on the road and run off into their homes and informal settlements.
