Several areas on Gauteng’s East Rand including Rabie Ridge, Phomolong and Mayibuye are without electricity.
This comes after residents, who were engaged in violent protests Tuesday night over issues of service delivery, set alight a section of the Allendale substation.
City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena says technicians are busy working on restoring power to the area.
He says Mayibuye Phomolong and Rabie Ridge are still affected by the unplanned power outage that occurred after the transformer at Allendale tripped due to a fire.
“City Power and Eskom technicians are currently conducting investigations to determine if further damage has been caused to supply lines and other electrical equipment,” says Mangena.
